Do you have a nice way to ask for cash rather than a traditional wedding present? I get asked this a lot. And yes, I do! I have lots of tactful ways to ask for a cash gift and here are 5 to help you.
More and more couples prefer to ask for cash as their wedding gift rather than a traditional gift or gift list. It’s more than likely that you and your partner have already set up a home together so you have all the household appliances that you need. Asking for a contribution to the honeymoon of your dreams is becoming increasingly popular too, but it’s not always easy to ask people for money and it can make you feel a bit awkward.
The simplest way is to be honest and upfront about it. Add a little note into your invitations and let people know your wishes. Chances are that they will be over the moon about not having to work out what to get you! I know that I much prefer giving something that I know will be used rather than a duplicate toaster!
Why not add one of these to your Wedding Invitations:
Poem 1: Money
We’ve lived together for quite a while,
With all our pots and pans,
And as we don’t need homely gifts,
We have another plan!
We know it’s not traditional,
But it’s easier that’s for sure,
To have no wedding list at all,
Your attendance means much more!
For those of you who do insist,
We have a savings pot,
A small gift to add to this,
Would really mean a lot!
Poem 2: Honeymoon
We are sending out this invitation ,
In hope you will join a celebration ,
But if a gift is your intention ,
May we take this opportunity to mention ,
We have already got a kettle and two toasters,
crockery, dinner mats, and matching coasters ,
so rather than something we have already got,
We would appreciate money for our honeymoon pot,
But most importantly we request ,
That you come to our wedding as our guest!
Poem 3: Money
If you were thinking of giving a gift to help us on our way,
A gift of money in a card would really make our day!
Poem 4: Honeymoon
Now we’ve made it official, that we are finally tying the knot,
having you there to share our day, would really mean a lot.
We’ve organised the venue, the photographer and cake,
and when it’s done and dusted, we’ll really need a break.
If you would like to lend a hand, to help us on our way,
a token in our wishing well, would really make our day.
Then while we're relaxing on the beach, or by the pool so blue,
we'll sit back and know that it is truly thanks to you!
Poem 5: Money
As wedding gifts are bulky and we’re a little short on space,
Some money would be the ideal gift to help us buy our place!
